The Mayfair Hotel will provide the heart of Adelaide with a new luxury boutique hotel, accommodating 170 luxury suites, bar and restaurant, high-end retail and executive lounge. The transformation of the heritage-listed Colonial Mutual building on the corner of King William and Hindley Street is due for completion later this year.
With the 15 storey building last renovated in the 1980's, and currently only a bare shell of floors, slabs and columns, it acts as a blank canvas for designers. The $35 million redevelopment will feature, in addition to luxury accommodation and entertainment areas, a lightweight steel and glass 'jewel box' on the southern side, creating a visual centrepiece.
As part of the renovations, Portolesi Structural has been appointed to complete floor repairs to all levels, as well as the new service of applying fire retardant spray. The Portolesi Structural site team works closely with Watpac Site Management to prepare a flexible program to enable repairs to be completed alongside the installation of new items so as to ensure that the best use is made of the compressed construction schedule. All site work is monitored under a comprehensive Quality Assurance program to provide security to all stakeholders.
