Creating a significant drawcard for South Australia, Hansen Yuncken are collaborating again with SKYCITY Adelaide Casino. The relationship between the two was established in 1985 when Hansen Yuncken completed the first Adelaide Casino Development, converting the historic train station into a thriving entertainment complex.


"This new expansion will deliver a world-class entertainment precinct offering new restaurants, bars, cafes and a luxury hotel and spa. Such an iconic development will attract domestic, interstate and international visitors to the Riverbank Precinct in the heart of Adelaide. Included as part of the development, the existing Adelaide Casino will be revitalised and restored creating a unique experience for their customers and maintaining all heritage aspects of the building" (as quoted from the HY website)

 

A large component of the project consisted of the re-establishing and refreshing to the exiting plaza area. In what was a series of systems and designs amalgamating over several decades of construction and up-grades the new design needed to incorporated all the existing elements into a fully refurbished environment.

 

Portolesi was contracted to carry out 2 main elements of this work under the direction of the civil contractor Outside Ideas. The first element was the Carbon Fibre strengthening to both the underside of the slab and top of the slab, and the second being the preparation works for the new structural slab consisting of scabbling to concrete, placement of reinforcement, installation of form void filler, placement of water stops, and concrete remediation among other things.

 

Carbon Fibre is a system used to provide rehabilitation to existing structures or increased loading to upgraded structural element. This process requires high level skill and training, with the support of robust quality systems and over-arching technical knowhow. Portolesi were the company of choice given the long standing involvement with these systems and have been able to deliver works on time with the highest level of quality and safety.
